Employers are seeking out skilled workers more than ever before, making it necessary for university students to be at the top of their game.

Aside from the theory of it all, what’s becoming clear in this competitive market is that students need to be job-ready to hit the ground running after graduation and attract potential employers – that’s where ECU steps in.

Already recognised for their efforts to provide learning in an industry-relevant environment, ECU has launched a new collaboration with global tech giant IBM that is rethinking student employability by offering a paid internship during course study and an exciting chance to be employed straight after graduation.

The internship program focuses on current and emerging high-demand skill areas that are key to WA’s digital economy. This includes software engineers, data scientists, mobile application developers, user-experience designers, and project managers.

It’s a super exciting partnership, and it means students will have the chance to earn while they learn and gain invaluable real work experience while surrounded by a team of qualified professionals.

Helping students kick their career goals

ECU student, Ethan Culff, gave the work placement program a crack, and he’s now one step ahead of the rest after putting his studies into practice at IBM.

Studying in commerce and majoring in project management, Ethan was offered an internship with the corporate giant where he gained valuable insights into what it’s like working in a real workplace.

He’s now been given the confidence needed to excel in his future career and says the opportunity has improved his practical, technical, and social skills.

And Ethan is just one of many stories. There are plenty more students all levelling up while completing their studies to come out the other end more prepared and more confident to enter the workplace.

A bit about ECU
