As a local brand, Perth based Bankwest executives were likely keen to secure the rights to Perth stadium.
It appears the Singaporean Telecommunications Limited offer was too good for the government to turn down.
The Perth Stadium building team had also installed a telecommunications system with the help of Optus and other telco tech providers in recent months. All key to ensuring reliable mobile phone and WiFi coverage for patrons.
Ten News Perth reported the deal to name Perth Stadium ‘Optus Stadium’ is worth $4 million a year over four years, however the bidding war with Bankwest may have increased that price significantly.
7 News Perth also reported on the Bankwest, Optus name war in recent weeks.
Interestingly, the AFL has a massive deal with Telstra for mobile streaming of games and naming rights – worth a reported $300 million.
