It’s J.R., Jimmy Recard!
Multi ARIA-award-winner Drapht is up there among Australia’s greatest hip-hop artists, and he hails from right here in Perth. You’d know him from iconic hits like Jimmy Recard and Rapunzel, which have been blasting at house parties and nightclubs over the years.
20 years into the game he’s still going strong, whipping up his new album Shadows and Shinings and collaborating with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra for a fully orchestrated performance at Perth Concert Hall on Friday 18 November and Saturday 19 November.
The exhilarating, head-bopping hometown show will feature over 50 WASO musicians and all new takes on his new tracks slotted in amongst the classics for a worthy celebration of the local great.
Speaking on the world premiere show, which will feature new arrangements by WASO’s Principal Trombone, Joshua Davis, Drapht told us what it’s like to hear his own tracks reinterpreted.
“We had the opportunity to jump into the ABC studios and hear the orchestra play two of Josh’s arrangements a few weeks ago and it was incredible. Such a buzz to hear it all come to life. Initially, it was obviously a bit daunting with my background in music stemming from producing music in my bedroom, but he has shown me nothing but respect throughout the entire process. I feel very thankful he’s the guy, and very happy to be up there performing alongside of him within the orchestra as well.”
WASO is certainly no stranger to collaborating with big-name talent, having put on shows with Hilltop Hoods, Eskimo Joe, and Birds of Tokyo in the past.
