After the roaring success of Highway to Hell in 2020, the Perth Festival, in conjunction with Tourism WA, is bringing the music of AC/DC back to the streets with High Voltage. This Sunday, May 7th, watch on as seven roving stages drive a five-kilometre loop through Fremantle with different bands on board. They’ve all got a different sound, but they’ll all be playing those AC/DC tunes you know and love.

When is High Voltage?

The event runs from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, May 7th.

Where is High Voltage?

The circuit runs along Marine Terrace, South Terrace, Norfolk Street, and the Esplanade in Fremantle. Download the map for a detailed festival layout.

How to get there:

Public transport

With many road closures in place and plenty of people converging on Fremantle, public transport is the best and most reliable way to get to the event.

There are free shuttle buses running from Fremantle Station to the centre of the loop every five minutes from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Frequency is halved, and buses leave every ten minutes from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The return journey to the station will be picking up along Marine Tce (King William St) between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm.

Driving

If you’re going to drive, consider carpooling or taking a rideshare.

With road closures in place, there’s limited parking outside of the exclusion zone. Arrive early to find a spot at:

  • Victoria Quay (open from 1pm)
  • Secure Parking – Collie St Carpark (last entry at 11:00 am)
  • Secure Parking – Bannister St Carpark (last entry 11:00 am)
  • Murdoch University in carpark 1, 2, or 3 along South St
  • Murdoch Station
  • Beaconsfield Primary
  • Fremantle Primary School
  • John Curtin College
  • Notre Dame

Shuttle buses will leave from Murdoch Station and Murdoch University every four minutes between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm and every ten minutes between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

There’s also a shuttle bus running every 15 minutes to get you around the High Voltage Circuit.

What to expect:

The musical parade kicks off at Fremantle Oval at  2:00 pm. Playing all your favourite AC/DC hits on the back of the seven trucks are Western Australian bands Body Type, Natalie Gillespie and Friends, The Desert Stars, Eddie Perfect, Soukouss with Tina Zando, Cash Savage and The Last Drinks, and Diesel. They’ll complete one loop of the five-kilometre circuit, rolling through Wilson Reserve at 3:00 pm and Esplanade Reserve at 3:45 pm.

Each checkpoint, or ‘zone’ is an experience in itself.

Fremantle Oval

Before the trucks take off, join the welcome to country at Fremantle Oval. It’s followed by a set from home-grown rockers Southern River Band and a flaming, bagpipe-led fanfare for the start of the rolling show. At 3:30 pm, Katy Steele and Dan Sultan will play their respective sets.

Wilson Reserve

Inspired by 70s-era Bon Scott, this beachside hangout is a little more relaxed than the other two zones at High Voltage. Catch DICE and Datura4 play before the trucks roll in and Ningaloo Records after.

Esplanade Reserve

On stage, there’ll be plenty of family-friendly music from the likes of Perth Saxophone Rockers, Bee Rizzi, and more. Off stage, get the kids involved in giant bubble making and circus skills, or watch the skate and parkour sessions.
