Before you resign yourself to the couch until the weekend, scroll through our what’s on guide because the mid-week events are coming through thick and fast. From visual art to interactive and performing arts, there’s plenty of breadth to what’s on in Perth this week.

Monday, May 1st

AFFINITY

Forget what mum and dad taught you about looking and not touching because Cathedral Square’s new, month-long art installation relies on community interaction to shine. More than 70 touch-sensitive orbs will cover the lawn until May 28th, lighting up from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm each night. Representing neurons and connections in the brain, 62 different coloured lights travel through the piece as people engage at more than 100 touch points.

Tuesday, May 2nd

Sip & Paint @ The Bassendean Hotel

Art is best made with a paintbrush in one hand and a good drink in the other; at least, that’s the philosophy behind Pinot & Painting. This Tuesday, put the theory to the test at their ‘Rapunzel’s Roses’ painting evening at the Bassendean Hotel. They’ll bring everything you need to make your masterpiece; you’ve just got to bring your creativity.

Wednesday, May 3rd

Perth Comedy Festival Gala

Keen to see a ton of comedy but short on time? The Perth Comedy Festival Gala is the answer to all your problems. A tasting platter of the best national and international comedians, the gala is a funny, fast-paced night out. Who knows, you might even discover your new favourite comedian.

Friday, May 5th

Ballet To Broadway

Tutus, pointe shoes, and graceful, elegant choreography; what’s not to love about ballet? Lose yourself in the love story from ‘SYLVIA’, as two lovers from completely different worlds pirouette in a pas des deux together. It’s just one of three iconic works on stage at Ballet To Broadway, a West Australian Ballet and West Australian Symphony Orchestra production at His Majesty’s Theatre. It’s bookended by the technical ‘RAYMONDA [ACT III]’ and the effervescent ‘WHO CARES?’ set in jazz-age New York.

The season runs until May 13th.

Little Creatures Microbrewery Launch

Beer lovers, rejoice; one of the founding fathers of craft beer in Australia is opening an outpost north of the river. As of this Friday, Little Creatures will be pouring cold pints from their microbrewery at The Camfield. You can join the welcome party from 4:00 pm and get a free pint on arrival if you’re one of the first 300 people through the door. There will also be some Little Creatures X The Camfield merch up for grabs, and one lucky person could win a Little Creatures at The Camfield season pass, giving them priority access to the venue on AFL game days, plus a bar tab and food platter.

Saturday, May 6th

Bickley Harvest Festival

Core Cider House
Bottoms up | Core Cider House Facebook

Celebrate 24 years of wine, cider, spirits, food, and primary produce in the Bickley Valley at the Bickley Harvest Festival. Over the course of the weekend, 18 of the valley’s producers and venues will open their doors and bring you behind the scenes of their operations. Head out on a fruit-picking tour with Core Cider House (tractor rides included), or explore the Brookside Wines range alongside two of the world’s greatest indulgences, chocolate and cheese. There’s plenty of entertainment, too, with live music at Hainault Vineyard, Carmel Cider Co, and more.

City of Belmont Closing Day

It’s been a big Autumn Racing Carnival season, but it’s time to say goodbye to Ascot as the action moves to Belmont Racecourse for the cooler months. Head down to the course with the family for the final races, face painting, and live entertainment. City of Belmont residents get free entry with proof of address.

Fremantle Dockers Vs. Hawthorn Hawks

Gameday is always a good day, but even more so when that game is at home. Dockers fans, pull out the purple scarves and get yourselves down to Optus Stadium for their head-to-head with Hawthorn. Bounce down is at 5:30 pm, but gates open well before then. If you can’t get your hands on tickets, Little Creatures at The Camfield will welcome you with open arms.

Sunday, May 7th

Leederville Community Yard Sale

Searching for treasure | supplied

To paraphrase an adage, ‘one person’s trash is another person’s treasure’. The former will be few and far between at the Leederville Community Yard Sale. Instead, the latter will dominate the courtyard stalls and racks.

Spend your Sunday morning sifting through the second-hand goods — clothes, accessories, and homewares — laid out around the Servo Yard Bar, with a coffee in hand and live music in the air. Get there at 9:00 am for the first pick of the wares, or head in closer towards the 2:00 pm end time and trade out the coffee for a margarita or negroni.

Idle Hands Drinks Co. Sundowner

What happens when two of Perth’s hospitality legends band together in business? Idle Hands Drinks Co.
Join Andrew McIntyre and Mitch Keane at Doubleview Bowling Club from 2:00 – 6:00 pm as they launch their ‘disco drinks on draught’ into the wild. Grab yourself a white choc pornstar martini or margarita fizz, a plate from Peasant’s Paradice, and bowl away to impeccable tunes by DJ Genga.

High Voltage

Still reeling from the rock ‘n rollin’ success of Perth Festival’s Highway To Hell in 2020? You can relive parts of it at this year’s High Voltage festival in Fremantle. Get down at 1:00 pm to stake your claim on a great vantage point somewhere along the five kilometre looped-circuit, and watch as the AC/DC tribute procession passes by. There are multiple musical zones set up around the city, too, where you’ll find more stages and plenty of activities to keep the family busy.
