With the school holidays in full swing and the high from the Easter chocolate wearing off (unless you’re one of those people who savour it), we’ve rounded up some events to keep you busy.

In a jam-packed week that starts with a walk through Burswood Park which has been transformed into a dinosaur playground at Jurassic Kingdom. Follow it up with Thursday night’s Dinner on the Terrace, pairing fine food and wine together to ensure a memorable foodie night. Round off the week by learning about the history of the state with the City of Perth Boorloo Heritage Festival.

Here’s what’s on this week in Perth:

Monday, April 10th

Jurassic Kingdom

Jurassic Kingdom at Burswood Park
Jurassic Kingdom at Burswood Park

Step back in time when Perth’s first dinosaur theme park, Jurassic Kingdom, roars into Burswood Park for the school holidays. With more than 20 lifesize dinosaurs on display, test your courage as you come face-to-face with a T-rex, Stegosaurus, and Triceratops. Learn about the time when these mighty creatures roamed the earth at the Prehistoric Education Zone, and try your hand at discovering and excavating fossils.

As well as the dinosaur-related activities, there’ll be the carnival favourite rides of dodgem cars, the cup and saucer, and the dream swinger, as well as showbags and dinosaur-themed merchandise.

The Mousetrap

The world’s longest-running play, The Mousetrap, opens for a limited time at His Majesty’s Theatre this April. For the past 70 years, millions of people have flocked to theatres to see this play in hopes of solving the murder mystery for themselves.

From best-selling novelist Agatha Christie, the play follows seven strangers who find themselves snowed in at a remote countryside guesthouse in London. When a police sergeant arrives, you’ll discover that a killer is in your midst. Don’t think you’ve found the killer just yet — there’s a twist ending coming that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Wednesday, April 12th

Puppets in the City

A 4.5-metre-tall puppet named Leor will take centre stage in the city when Spare Parts Puppet Theatre takes over Perth with Puppets in the City. It’s up to you and the rest of the audience to give life to Leor as you become a puppeteer. As the sun sets, watch Leor transform into a galaxy of stars when hundreds of lights turn on throughout his body.

After mastering your puppetry skills, tie up your shoes and choose your adventure as you make your own puppet and go on a treasure hunt. Keep an eye out for the glittery and inquisitive Brolga Birds along the way.

Thursday, April 13th

Dinner on the Terrace

Cottesloe Beach Hotel brings you the second event in its Dinner on the Terrace series. Joining forces with Yarri, Snake & Herring, and The Terrace, you’ll dine on an inspired four-course meal perfectly matched with wines from one of the best wineries in the southwest.

The highlight of the menu for us is the charred lamb shoulder with parsnip puree, red wine jus, and salsa verde served with a side of roasted Japanese pumpkin. With or without the paired vino, that just sounds simply divine.

Friday, April 14th

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 in Concert

Follow the end of Harry’s, Ron’s, and Hermione’s journey as they leave Hogwarts and try to find and destroy ‘He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’s’ Horcruxes. Watch the excitement unfold on screen as the West Australian Symphony Orchestra performs Alexandre Desplat’s score live on stage.

The concert is on both Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm.

Neon Youth Festival

Kicking off Youth Week 2023 is the inaugural Neon Youth Festival which will be held at George Burnett Park.

Hear pop, hip-hop, rap, electronic, and indie rock music from Dulcie, Project Bexx, Dear Sunday, Bad Weather, Sash Seabourne, and Mali Jo$e. Aside from the main stage, there’ll be a silent disco area, free UV body painting, food trucks, and a chill-out area with games, calming activities, and lounge spaces.

Saturday, April 15th

Pineapple Club: Cottesloe Beach

Party it up with Pineapple Club: Cottesloe Beach for sun, sand, and sips. Bask in the sunshine, soak up the ocean views, and dance the day away on one of the three stages while indulging in refreshing cocktails.

Tickets are selling fast so grab them before they’re gone.

Music in the Park

First Nations performers and artists will take centre stage to recognise the Noongar season of Djeran and close the City of Bayswater’s 2022/23 Summer Festival Series. Music in the Park will feature performances from Noongar singer-songwriters Kobi Morrison, Abrynz, and Boox Kid, along with folk songs and native language covers from quintet Della Mob. Boss Arts Creative will showcase a contemporary Aboriginal dance.

Sample bush tucker with Bindi Bindi Dreaming, grab dinner from one of the food trucks — there’ll be Japanese street food, Italian woodfired pizza, soft serve, and coffee — or pack a picnic. Discover a range of Indigenous-owned products at the market stalls and keep the little ones entertained with free face painting.

City of Perth Boorloo Heritage Festival

During April, the City of Perth will celebrate the natural, built, and cultural heritage of the vibrant city. In its 13th year, the City of Perth Boorloo Heritage Festival shines a light on Perth’s heritage and highlights the importance of the cultural heritage of the Whadjuk Nyoongar peoples of Boorloo.

With over 90 events, the festival has a mix of heritage walks, workshops, and talks. ARIA Award-nominated Wiradjuri-Filipino musician Mo’Ju will perform for the first time in Perth, and local talent Flewnt, Optamus, and Inkabee will also take to the stage.

Sunday, April 16th

Music in the Park at Russell Square

From 4:00 pm, Russell Square will be filled with live musicians and activities for Music in the Park at Russell Square. The program will feature magician and comedian Ross Vegas as MC, and music from Trouvaille and Howie Morgan Trio. Kids can get their faces painted, hula-hoop, and dance with ribbons and silk pois.
