Recycling has never been easier, thanks to the launch of a new on-demand Containers for Change collection service.
The new initiative will increase accessibility to the widely popular container deposit scheme which offers 10 cent refunds for every returned container. The service then recycles products which would otherwise end up in landfill.
Since the program’s launch in October 2020, Containers for Change has successfully diverted more than three billion containers from landfill.
New on-demand collection service
As part of the new on-demand Collect service, Western Australians can book a collection through the Containers for Change WA app or website. They can then select a service provider in their local area.
The service will make bulk container returns easier for cafes, restaurants, bars, businesses, and workplaces, where it’s estimated up to 400 million containers go unreturned every year in WA.
Collect was established to address barriers for access and convenience and provide customers with new avenues of return.
“Access and convenience to Containers for Change has never been easier with the launch of Containers for Change Collect,” Environment Minister Reece Whitby said.
“I encourage all Western Australians to utilise the many ways to return their 10 cent containers that are available – whether it’s via the collection service, by visiting a refund point, or by donating to a local school or charity.”
