Mark McGowan and Roger Cook provide an update on WA’s coronavirus epidemic.

Mark McGowan has issued an update to the media about the current cruise ship situation as the Artania has now become a commonwealth issue.

Artania Update

The Artania has no Australians on board, however, 46 passengers on the Artania have confirmed to have tested positive to coronavirus.

This is a state of emergency that modern Western Australia has never seen before

3 passengers have been removed from the ship for medical conditions with all 3 in intensive care and 2 of them are positive for coronavirus.

An agreement has been made between WA and the federal government that will see all passengers who are fit to fly – transferred directly from the ship to the airport where they will board charted flights.

The positive passengers on board the Artania will be transferred to private wings on procured hospitals and will remain there until they are fit to travel.

23 new cases in WA overnight

There have been 23 more cases of coronavirus confirmed overnight in Western Australia – bringing our state’s total to 278.

Of the 23 new cases, 4 are from regional WA with 2 from the Wheatbelt, 1 in the Great Southern and 1 in Southwest.

The ages of the new confirmed cases range from 22 to 76 years, with 17 males and 16 females.

The government is still working through the contact tracing details.
