Mark McGowan latest Perth COVID-19 update for Day 3 of the Perth Lockdown.
No COVID-19 cases recorded in WA for third day since outbreak.
Premier announces “encouraging result”
For the third day in a row since WA’s first COVID-19 case in almost a year, the State has recorded no new cases.
Premier Mark McGowan confirmed more than 12,300 tests were done on Tuesday, following more than 16,000 on Monday and 3,000 on Sunday.
Despite the good news, he reiterated the fact some restrictions would remain beyond Friday because of the ability for the virus to “linger” in the community.
“I want to get back to normal as quickly as possible,” he said.
“But we need at least 14 days of transmission before we can return to our unique life here in Perth.”
Mr McGowan urged for Western Australians to keep looking out for symptoms and get tested.
“We want to keep the number of tests at a high level, that means even recently if you’ve received a negative result, if you begin to feel unwell or experience any symptoms, go get tested again,” he said.
“Take nothing for granted. The more we test, the more confident we can be to get back to normal.
The housemates of the security guard who tested positive on Sunday have returned negative tests but are all being tested again. They remain in hotel quarantine while those tests are pending.
189 close contacts of the positive case have now been identified, 138 of which have returned negative results.
Mr McGowan confirmed the Government were taking extra precautions with everyone who has been in hotel quarantine.
“I can also report that, yesterday, 54 guests at the quarantine hotel were due to be released, we held them back for an additional COVID-19 test to be carried out,” he said.
“The results all came back negative and they will now be released today.”
Mr McGowan extended his “sincere thanks” to the people of Western Australia for their response to the latest COVID-19 challenge.
“You are showing the world what can be done when people come together and do everything they can to keep their community safe,” he said.
“I’m so proud of each and every one of you.”
It comes after the New York Times reported on Perth’s speedy lockdown earlier this week, bringing the news of the State’s COVID-19 measures to the world.
