Woodman Point Tiger Shark Incident
Woodman Point Tiger Shark : A group of fisherman have somehow hooked, caught and released a Tiger shark at one of Perth’s most popular beaches at the weekend.
A photograph circulating on social media shows the shark on Woodman Point beach.
The tiger shark was caught next to Ammo Jetty, popular with Perth fishing enthusiasts.
7West media interviewed a witness to the incident.
Jason Hodgson said he was with his daughters for a day by the beach – when they saw group of fishermen had hooked a 6-foot tiger shark.
“We could see all these people running down the jetty – so I took the girls over and said we’d have a look at what was going on,” Hodgson told The West.
“These couple of young guys had obviously got this shark and have then had to reel it all the way into the beach to get the hook out.
It’s not known exactly how the fisherman managed to hook and release the shark, but they were obviously pretty brave.
“It was a pretty big shark – probably six feet I reckon and a tiger – and it took a couple of them to jump on it and sort out the hook. Then they swam it back out.”
“Once they got the hook out and took it back into the water they took a fair risk. They swam it out to a point where they were probably chest-deep and could make sure there was some water around its gills and that it was going to be OK.”
Exactly how the shark was hooked isn’t clear.

Woodman Point is a popular and historical Perth recreation spot, within the Woodman Point Regional Park, a 54 hectare national park with recreational facilities including parklands, playgrounds, jetties, and a caravan park.
