The Fremantle Dockers are back on the winners list after making easy work of bottom of the ladder Hawthorn Hawks. While West Coast Eagles again suffered a big loss and yet another significant injury with young star Jai Culley going down clutching his right knee only 12 minutes into the match.

Richmond Tigers v West Coast Eagles

It was a story of two halves as West Coast challenged Richmond early on. However, the young and depleted West Coast Eagles weren’t able to keep up with the Tigers – resulting in another significant loss and again wondering if there is any way West Coast can change their fortunes.

Good

Oscar Allen was standing tall in the forward line for the Eagles, grabbing 7 marks and kicking a game-high four goals.

The engine room couldn’t be faulted for the first half of the game as West Coast were able to stay with Richmond, however the second half of the game would see West Coast fall away as Richmond piled on the goals.

Tim Kelly and Jermaine Jones were standouts for West Coast in the midfield as Kelly continues his strong season with another 29 disposals while Jones continues to provide pace and dare while notching 30 disposals.

Bad

Another wounded Eagle from the weekend as the number one mid-season recruit from 2022 Jai Culley went down with a knee injury early in the first quarter. The bad news doesn’t stop there as it’s since been reported that Culley has suffered an ACL injury.

Jack Darling’s continues to struggle for form and to make an impact on games having only kicked multiple goals in three games so far this season.

Fremantle Dockers v Hawthorn Hawks

Fremantle Dockers 18.9 (117) v Hawthorn Hawks 7.6 (48)

While it’s too early to say Fremantle’s season is back on track – they did what they were meant to do on the weekend with a convincing win over the bottom of the ladder Hawks.

Good

Welcome back Nat Fyfe.

Fremantle’s dual Brownlow medalist is a welcome addition to the team. Fyfe started as the substitue and entered the game in the third quarter – playing time in both the midfield and forward line. In that short amount of time Fyfe was able to kick a goal and collect 10 disposals. It’s not hard to see how much dangerous Fremantle will be if Fyfe is able to stay on the field.

Luke Jackson had his best game for Fremantle on the weekend. Not only did he kick 2 goals, but more importantly he was a force through the midfield. Jackson collected 24 disposals (16 contested) and 7 tackles, providing ground ball pressure rarely seen from a player of his size.

Bad

When versing the bottom team – it can be hard to determine a true guage on the outcomes of a game with such as easy win.

The most important question for Fremantle Dockers to know going forward is the performance from star recruit Jackson and his performance in the midfield. Will he be able to produce and provide the same impact against stronger teams?
