A Warner Bros promotion saw the Scorchers become the ‘Batmen’ and the Sydney Sixers become the ‘Supermen’ in the heroic showdown at #TheFurnace in which the Scorchers won by 9 wickets.

As part of the promotion for the Batman v Superman movie soon to be released, for every wicket taken by the Perth Scorchers a family from the crowd won a trip to Warner Bros Movie World on the Gold Coast- all flights and accommodation included! Luckily for the crowd- the Scorchers didn’t hold back and took 8 wickets in their 20 overs and sent 8 lucky families away on fabulous holidays. Both teams swapped their usual brightly coloured uniforms for black uniforms sporting the logo of their superheros across the chest.

It was a stinking hot day in Perth on Saturday so thank goodness the game was scheduled for 6:15pm when the sun had started to go down. #TheFurnace grandstands were a sea of orange, filled with 20,444 fans showing their support for the reigning champions, the Perth Scorchers. It was a beautiful sight!

The Sydney Sixers won the toss and elected to bat first, sending the Scorchers around the ground to bowl and field. Unfortunately for the Sixers, the toss was just about all they won! The Scorchers were all over it early and before we knew it the Sixers were 4/49 after 9 overs! The Scorchers looked sharp and boundaries were very hard to come by for the Sixers. After some killer catches from Ashton Agar and Joel Paris and the excellent bowling of David Willey, who took 3 wickets, and Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff, who took two wickets each, the Sixers finished on 8/112 after 20 overs.

The Scorchers then welcomed the BBL record breaking batting duo Michael Klinger and Shaun Marsh to the crease to start off their innings. In the Scorchers last match against the Melbourne Renegades, Klinger and Marsh became the only opening batsmen in the history of the BBL to last an entire 20 overs without getting out, recording a history making 10 wicket win for the Scorchers. The signature hash tag #MadeTough has never been so fitting!

The Scorchers needed 113 runs from 120 balls to win. Marsh was hitting Fours left right and centre (8 in total), along with 3 big Sixes. Klinger hit a couple of boundaries too, he was sitting on a healthy 28 runs before a nice delivery came from the Sixers bowler Sean Abbott. Klinger played it to fine leg, which unfortunately resulted in a catch from the Sixers Will Somerville. And that was all she wrote for stand-in skipper Michael Klinger, he was out for 28 runs off 22 deliveries. Scorchers were 1/65 off 9.2 overs.

As an amazing Mexican wave snaked its way around #TheFurnace, Marcus Harris took to the crease to replace Klinger. The hero Shaun Marsh was unstoppable; he is such a pleasure to watch! In the 13th over, Scorchers had breezed to 1/100 and only needed 13 runs from 42 balls. Marsh successfully brought it home for the Scorchers, hitting a final Four to bring up the 113 runs needed for the win. Marsh finished on 63 not out from 54 balls, Marcus Harris finished on 15 not out from 11 balls. Scorcher David Willey was named Man of the Match for his great bowling, taking 3 wickets for just 22 runs.

The reigning champs took the win by a very convincing 9 wickets and jumped back to the top of the BBL ladder. The Scorchers are in dominant form and are heading down the right path for the three-peat that they are chasing.

The Scorchers next match is against the Adelaide Strikers at Adelaide Oval on the 5th of January.
