Uber’s Guide to getting home on New Year’s Eve.

New Years Eve can be the greatest night out – however, it can quickly turn to the worst when you are unable to get home or have to pay a premium to do so.

The countdown to 2018 has begun and as seen in previous years Uber has provided users with a guide to Uber rides this New Year’s Eve.

1. Know before you go with upfront fare estimates

Open the Uber app and enter your destination to see an upfront fare estimate. Make sure you check the price before you hit ‘Request Ride’. If a fare estimate is more than you want to pay, check back later for lower fares.

2. Time your ride – skip the rush

When demand is high, fares increase to help ensure there is a ride when you need one. On New Year’s eve, fares are usually highest between 11pm and 3am.

3. Pin it to win it

For a smoother pickup, double check you’ve dropped the pin in the right place. You can manually move your pin location or enter the pickup address. Avoid busy or crowded streets and do not drop the pin at illegal or no-stopping zones.

4. Check your driver

With the increase of Uber drivers on the road and especially in crowded ares, before you hop into your ride, double check your driver’s car colour, model, number plate and photo match what you see in the Uber app.

5. Multiple stops, bigger cars

Too many mates for a regular car? Choose the uberXL option for groups of up to 6 people.
Plus, use the multiple destinations feature to add more than one drop-off address in a single trip. The app will do the navigating.

6. Share a ride, split the fare

It’s easy to split the fare between two or more people – no cash or IOUs necessary. Just hit the ‘Split Fare’ button in the payment section. A small fee applies.

7. Share your trip details

Don’t miss a thing and keep your friends and family up to date. Whether you’re running early, late, or right on time, keep your family and friends posted by sharing your trip details with them straight from the app.

8. No schedule – go where the night takes you

For New Year’s Eve only, the ‘Schedule Rides’ feature in the Uber app will not be available between 7pm and 4am.

9. Stay cool

Driving party people on the busiest night of the year can be stressful. To help make Uber better for everyone, make sure to follow our Community Guidelines to ensure that both riders and drivers treat each other with respect and have a great start to 2018.

10. Need help? Contact support

If you wake up next year and realise you’ve left something back in 2017 you can contact your driver directly in the app to track down your lost items.
