Things can usually start to seem a little dull in winter, with the sun coming out less we find that we do too. However, with not much else to do, winter really is the perfect time to explore Perth’s food scene. Many places crank out some unforgettable events and menus, allowing you to fill cold days by filling your cup, literally and figuratively. In August, Plateful Perth food festival will likely fill your foodie calendar as you eat your way through a month’s worth of events, experiences, and offers. In the meantime, here is a selection of the top limited-edition foodie events around Perth that are only here while the rain lasts.

The Ski Lodge — Cottesloe Beach Hotel 

Perhaps one of the most fitting winter events, Cottesloe Beach Hotel has transformed its Beach Club Mixology Bar and Terrace into a glamorous ski lodge. On various Saturdays throughout July and August dress in your best Apres-Ski attire and come along for an afternoon of curated signature winter cocktails, alongside an atmosphere that will transport you straight to the slopes. Six weeks of culinary experiences are hitting Leederville this July and August. Nom Nom festival will see the oh-so-groovy Leederville Precinct taken over by boozy brunches, progressive lunches, dinner dates, and gourmet plates. With something for everybody (quite literally), this is a food festival you’ll want to treat yourself to. Think cocktails and comedy, all-day chardonnay, and BYO Wednesdays. I have no doubt that you’re already sold from reading the heading but just in case you aren’t, here’s some information. Every Wednesday at Market Grounds from 5:00 pm in July and August you can indulge in two hours of an endless supply of soft pillowy Gnocchi for only $35 — yes, please. With three different varieties to choose from and a selection of recommended wine pairings, we have a feeling this may be the best two hours of your week. 

Hot Gin Terrace — Long Chim

Following last year’s success, Hot Gin Terrace is back again this winter. Descend into the Long Chim basement and prepare for a sensory gin adventure that’ll warm the soul.

Inspired by an intriguing tradition from the past, specially crafted instruments known as a ‘loggerhead’ are plunged straight from the burning flames into the alcohol, caramelising the sugars, and causing the cocktail to bubble and steam, ultimately creating a myriad of deliciously warming aromas.

Get Shucked — Shui

Back by popular demand, Perth’s King of Oysters, Jerry Fraser, is returning to Shui on Wednesday, July 26th and will be serving up these ocean delicacies from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm. 

Enjoy a half dozen for $19.00, a full dozen for $33.00 or get the best of both worlds with the Chef’s Banquet and half a dozen oysters for just $90.00. Make sure you book your table so you don’t miss out. 

Topi x Brendan Pang — Topi

Discover the flavours of Mauritius as Masterchef’s Brendan Pang joins forces with Topi at Karrinyup’s West Deck for a modern dining experience inspired by his heritage. This collaborative feast is a blend of Chinese, Indian, African, and French flavours that combine to create dishes unique to Mauritian culture. Symphony On The Water — The Raft

Allow yourself to be serenaded by classical music, wines, and curated charcuterie plates at Symphony On The Water. Sit back and take in the calming views of the Swan River and the city aboard a candlelit night on The Raft. Expect an evening of unforgettable elegance as the mesmerising strings trio from Perth Symphony Orchestra play beside you.

Servo, a Leederville favourite, has decided to extend its weekend hours and will now be opening its doors for breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. If you’re a morning person, then head on down between 8:00 am and 10:30 am for a morning of zesty, unique flavours that’ll be sure to spice up your day. In case you needed more of an incentive, your pooch is more than welcome to join you and there’s even a special little doggie menu for them. 

State of Wine — State Buildings 

If you consider yourself to be an oenophile, then this one’s for you. Across five days, State of Wine will take over the State Buildings with an array of intoxicating masterclasses, parties, dinners, and grape-driven events. 

Aventuras Latinas — Indigo Oscar

This winter, allow the team at the vibrant Indigo Oscar, in the Indiana Tea House on Cottesloe Beach, to take you on a journey through six South American countries with their Aventuras Latinas food event. With Mexico and Argentina already crossed off the list in June, upcoming weeks will see the local flavours of Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Peru take over the restaurant. With authentic local cocktails, wines, and beers from each region also on the menu, this is a unique event we’d recommend making room in the schedule for. 

High Tea — The Westin 

Treat yourself and your loved ones to an indulgent high tea experience in The Haven Lounge at The Westin. Pastry Chef, Kiran Jetti, and Head Chef, Paul Gaspa, have come together to create a delectable menu consisting of four savoury and five sweet items. Unlimited coffee and tea are available, and of course, The Westin has partnered with Moet and Chandon so you can also get the bubbles flowing. 

Pronto Pranzo In Santini — Santini Bar and Grill

Are you one of the only people who didn’t flock to Europe’s southern coastline this winter? Not to worry, you can still have your Italian fling under the sun; however, it’ll just be in the form of a flavoursome two or three-course meal, which, let’s be real, will probably leave you more satisfied. 

Every Thursday, Santini Bar and Grill is putting on their Santini Pronto Pranzo lunch menu with classic dishes tossed at a fast pace. Spend your midday in their Sorrento-style dining room, savouring the flavours of Italy, and soaking up the winter sun as it streams through the floor-to-ceiling windows. 

Bottomless BBQ — The Guildford Hotel

Here for a good time and not a long time is The Guildford Hotel’s latest event, Bottomless BBQ. Running one Thursday each month through July, August, and September from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, you can get your hands on two hours of bottomless barbequed meats, loads of sides, and free-flowing drinks from the choice of either house wines or beer.

Weekday Wonders — Cooee

Carefully curated by the culinary team, Cooee is bringing warmth to winter with their Weekday Wonders, an ever-changing menu of seasonal delights. The menu will be available from Tuesday to Thursday each week in July and August and will feature a rotation of appetising dishes, with new specials each week to keep you cosy and comforted this winter.
