WA to celebrate all things quokka with a birthday bash in their honour.
Yep, this is going to be a thing. Tourism Minister Paul Papalia has announced a birthday bash for Rottnest Island’s quokkas will be happening this September.
What is the quokka party going to be exactly?
While the world’s happiest animal won’t be wearing any party hats – though that would no doubt break the internet. From September 13 to 15 guests will be invited to the island to enjoy a 3-day celebration of all things quokka.
It is probably the least WA tourism can do for the quokka who has been credited with driving tourism numbers to WA since the #QuokkaSelfie started to go viral.

To add to the celebrations children will be able to travel to the island for free and their admission fee waived during the inaugural event.
Adults will also be treated to $50 special return tickets to Rottnest – with hotels and accommodation providers offering packages starting at $229 for a two-bedroom unit and check-outs stretching to as late as 4pm.
The weekend will also have free activities including walking tours, a quokka detective scavenger hunt, movie screening and most importantly tips on how to take the perfect quokka selfie and the opportunity to learn more about quokkas from experts.
