Scarborough Sunset Markets kick off in November.
WA’s biggest beachside dinner spot, Scarborough Sunset Markets, kicks off next Thursday (5 November) and runs every Thursday until 29 April 2021.
Expect to see all your usual foodie favourites this season, plus heaps of new fun and delicious additions to the already brimming offering.
Scarborough Beach
Known for its gorgeous views, glorious beach and buzzing vibes, Scarborough is the perfect place to perch up on a warm Thursday night with mates, a delish meal and a thirst quenching bev in hand, listening to live music, watching the captivating sunset and embracing all that makes Scarborough truly special.
Last Summer’s edition saw thousands flock from across Perth to get amongst the global market of culinary delights and sensory surprises. This season is looking to be bigger and better than ever, with COVID restrictions easing and necessary health precautionary measures put into place – the Scarborough Sunset Markets are ready for another sizzling season.
Foodies & Artisan Retailers
Keeping Thursday nights fresh, the Scarborough Sunset Markets boast over 100 foodies and retailers.
You’ll be spoiled for choice week after week, as the carefully curated choice of vendors changes, giving market-goers loads of variety every Thursday night. The options are aplenty – from slow BBQ meats, rich curries, Italian meatballs, Asian dumplings, local and line-caught ceviche, gourmet hotdogs, authentic Lebanese, tasty Thai, Canarian cuisine, Malaysian satay, Brazilian bites, real Moroccan, Spanish paella and bruschetta so good it will have you singing!
Dessert is always a good idea, and this year’s options guarantee you’ll be going back for thirds. Think fried ice-cream, edible cookie dough, French crepes and pastries, Greek donuts, waffles, raw treats, a giant bus filled with lollies, bouquets of fairy floss and creme brulee so good you’ll forget about the calories! Plus, a Perth market first – the super popular Souffle pancakes! Perfectly fluffy, jiggly and oh-so-sweet.
Not forgetting anyone, the markets offer plenty of delicious options for Vegan, vego and gluten free friends – like plant-based Latin American street food, warm vegan donuts, Peruvian plant-based loaded fries, handcrafted gelato, gluten free crepes and brownies, healthy raw treats, and let’s not forget the unmissable loaded hot potatoes.
For those after a refresher that doesn’t come from the brand spanking new beachside bar, you can grab a cold pressed juices and Kombucha from Perth locals, Hippy food co – so you can enjoy a fresh booch by the beach.
The Scarborough Sunset retail stalls are packed with an abundance of locally made goods, ranging from hand poured soy candles, lush green flora, local landscape photography, traditional Aboriginal art, vintage clothing, unique jewellery pieces, homewares perfect for DIY projects, beautiful flowers, a private masseuse and an enchanting tarot reader.
Beats
Fun, beachy vibes means banging beats, and this year local legend DJ Shann returns to the Scarborough Amphitheatre to spin the hottest tracks.
Shann will be bringing along an array of musical acts this season from sax player, bongo drummers, secret colabs and heaps more, making each Thursday night a little extra fun. DJ Flex also brings his signature Caribbean flavour to the Clock Tower stage, and a slew of other local artists play to the crowds across the beachside marketplace.
Dog Lounge AKA “Poochie Palace”
The doggo obsession is real, and this year the markets offer a whole area specifically for your child four-legged family member.
That’s right – bring your furry friend down every Thursday for the ultimate hangout in our Poochie Palace. Expect a special spot to pamper your four-legged friend, including beds to rest on, water bowls for recharging, gourmet treats from Woof Meow Tweet Squeak and the cutest matching apparel creations from Rolas Pet Boutique. All the trimmings to ensure your best friend has a blast.
Private Dining
The newest addition to the markets – the private dining experience, perfect for that next special occasion, end of year Christmas party or just a catch up with the gang.
For just $55 per person, you’ll be treated to no-hassle parking at the Rendezvous Hotel, a gorgeously styled long table dining area fit out with premium seating, cushions and candles, a private pay-as-you-go bar and a massive selection of ‘the best of the markets’ snacks, mains and desserts.
It’s food for days with the best view in Perth! The private area is perfectly set up to catch that breath-taking Scarborough sunset, and close enough to catch the DJ tunes in the Amphitheatre.
We recommend getting in quick with this one – the private beach dining is already booked out til Christmas.
War on Waste
The team behind the markets take the war on waste very seriously. In just 12months, the team have reduced landfill by over 80% via their first-to-market, innovative Waste Program.
Their team of Waste Warriors volunteer their time and work side-by-side with Sustainability Partner, Oz Harvest to ensure that all rubbish is sorted into compost, recycling or landfill; cups are washed and reused at the bar; reusable Eat Kits are sold and used across the site and the ever-important sustainability message is spread far and wide.
Three things to keep in mind when coming to the markets, to ensure we’re all doing our bit:
1️. BYO Eat Kit- patrons are encouraged to bring your own plates, cutlery, cups and bags from home to enjoy your market meals and take home your goods. This is the #1 thing that will drive change in our environmental footprint, so we really encourage the community to B-Y-O!
2️. Buy an Eat Kit – if you can’t BYO our Waste Warriors will be selling Scarborough Sunset Market exclusive Eat Kits at a subsidised rate. These babies are made from bamboo, come with cutlery and are designed to be reused time and time again.
3️. Use the dedicated WASTE STATIONS to dispose of your waste. These stations will be manned by the awesome OzHarvest WA volunteers, who will ensure all waste is disposed of correctly.
Markets Bar presented by Indian Ocean Hotel (*subject to approval*)
A Summer sunset wouldn’t be complete without a cold drink in hand, and thanks to The Indian Ocean Hotel, you’ll be able to enjoy just that.
The Scarborough Sunset Markets beach bar will be sitting pretty overlooking the water with incredible views of the sunset, so head on over, order a craft beer or premium glass of vino, sit back in the beautiful deck chairs and enjoy the view.
The barkeep will be pouring favourites like Single Fin, Bertie Cider, Matso’s Ginger Beer and Matso’s Hard Lemon. Keeping the love local, the bar will stock Western Australian wines, including a Sauvignon Blanc, Rose, Prosecco, Pet Nat and a crisp Sauvignon Blanc Semillon.
They’ve also got a super mixologist to shake up some fabulous cocktails, with favourites like gin and tonics, vodka lime and sodas, a dark and stormy or a refreshing Spritz, perfect for balmy Summer nights in Scarborough.
For those who prefer a tinnie over tap, the Indian Ocean Hotel will be stocking our beach bar with four different beers.
Games and Entertainment
This year brings games and entertainment galore, with beach jenga, volleyball, soccer and dodgeball on rotation each week.
The skies will be painted with insta-worthy giant kites, the beach will be packed with giant wooden games and the crew from Brazilian Beach Carnival will be joining the markets across the season with their infectious Samba drumming and free dance lessons.
Sunset Applause
A long-standing tradition, and market favourite – the Scarborough Sunset Applause.
An appreciation of the day that was, excitement for the night ahead, and a beautiful way to connect the community together. As the sun sets, the applause begins and the sound is breathtaking.
Once fully set, the beach lights up with various performers and shows.
XMAS EVE and NEW YEARS EVE
In a market first, this year the Scarborough Sunset Markets will be running both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Celebrate each of these festive nights in true markets style, with your toes in the sand, the buzz of Scarborough behind you and say SAYONARA to 2020 (2021 is the year people!)
