John Forrest Tavern will close its doors to make way for a national park redevelopment.

If you haven’t been, you’ve seen it plastered all over your Instagram.

John Forrest Tavern (aka The Wildflower Tavern) situated in John Forrest National Park has had its fair share of locals and tourists alike flocking through its doors over the years, because where else can you order a drink at the bar and be greeted by a dozen or so roos?

But, it’s time to say a very sad goodbye to a slice of Perth history as the lease for the well-known pub that opened in 1978 is set to expire with no renewal.

The forcible closure by the state government is part of an $8.4 million redevelopment.

John Forrest National Park is set to receive a new look, with the major redevelopment said to be bringing new and improved walking and off-road cycling trails, a new café, and improvements to existing picnic areas and gardens.

Given that it’s the only food and drink facility on site, the pub will be replaced with food vans for visitors to enjoy while the new facilities are under construction.

It’s unsurprisingly caused quite a bit of controversy and outrage in the Perth community, with an online petition set up for a reversal of the decision.

We’d have to say, we’re pretty guttered to see it close up shop too.

How you can support the John Forrest Tavern

A petition has been started on change.org allowing users to join the urgent call for the McGowan government, the DBCA and Kalamunda MLA Matthew Hughes to offer an immediate, long-term lease extension for the Wildflower Tavern, and guarantee its future within the John Forrest National Park.
